Commissioned in 1632, the Taj Mahal took over 20 years to complete, with more than 20,000 artisans working under the guidance of chief architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. The monument serves as a mausoleum for Mumtaz Mahal and later became the resting place for Shah Jahan as well.
