Overview
Chittorgarh, the epitome of Rajput pride and bravery, is one of Rajasthan’s most historic and magnificent cities. Famous for the Chittorgarh Fort, the largest fort in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this city stands as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and resilience. Once the capital of the Mewar kingdom, Chittorgarh is deeply rooted in the tales of heroism of Rajput warriors and the legendary queen Rani Padmini, who chose jauhar (self-immolation) over surrender.
The Chittorgarh Fort, spread across 700 acres, is a majestic structure with seven massive gates, stunning palaces, and intricately carved temples. Within the fort, attractions like the Vijay Stambh (Tower of Victory) and Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame) stand as architectural masterpieces. The Rana Kumbha Palace and Padmini Palace tell stories of grandeur and sacrifice, while the Meera Temple, dedicated to the devotional poet-saint Meera Bai, is a spiritual haven.
Beyond its historical significance, Chittorgarh also boasts scenic beauty with Gaumukh Reservoir, a natural water source, and Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to leopards, jackals, and various bird species. The city's vibrant culture comes alive during the Jauhar Mela, a festival that commemorates the bravery of Rajput women.
