Overview
The Badrinath Temple has immense mythological significance. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu performed penance here, and Goddess Lakshmi took the form of a Badri tree to provide him shelter. The temple was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century and later expanded by Garhwal kings. The main deity is a black stone idol of Lord Vishnu, known as Badri Vishal, seated in a meditative posture. Pilgrims take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund, a natural hot water spring believed to have medicinal properties, before entering the temple.
Badrinath is well-connected by road and can be reached via Rishikesh, Haridwar, or Dehradun.
